When I was in 7th grade for some reason I decided to spontaneously rent a movie at Blockbuster titled The Hours. If you haven't seen this movie, I must admit that it made me sad, and I usually enjoy dramas or otherwise sad movies.
I probably like the music/soundtrack more than I do the actual movie, but still. Some of the greatest actors of our generation star in this movie, like Nicole Kidman (who won an oscar for her role!), Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, Claire Danes, and Ed Harris plays on old guy with aids (He's also in Stepmom, another sad movie that I like). Nicole Kidman wore a false nose to make her look more like Virginia Woolf, how awesome is that?!
Thanks to The Hours, I discovered Philip Glass (who composed the soundtrack to The Hours), he is absolutely fantastical amazing and I love all of his songs, old and new. Also thanks to this movie I started researching and learning more about Virginia Woolf. She kept diaries, like I used to. She loved writing and used it as an escape from her life which she hated. She also is a really fascinating person to me. I own 2 of her biographies that are about 800 pages each, no lie, so I obviously haven't had time to read them, but plan on doing so once I get a Summer where I'm not constantly unpacking/repacking/cleaning/moving to a new apartment.
What I want to say is I owe all the happiness of my life to you. You have been entirely patient with me and incredibly good. I want to say that — everybody knows it. If anybody could have saved me it would have been you. Everything has gone from me but the certainty of your goodness. I can't go on spoiling your life any longer. I don't think two people could have been happier than we have been. V.
That is from her suicide note to her husband and probably seems really depressing, but I find it romantic. Whatever. Maybe I'm weird. That's okay. Here are some other quotes from her that I like:
