It's not Goodbye... It's See ya Later

This Summer I was so very fortunate to be able to meet my best friend. Well, we didn't meet this Summer, we just talked way more than we had before and discovered we were like almost the same person pretty much. We're basically soul sisters. Or like, soulmates, but the friend kind. The only way I can adequately describe it is that I think it was destiny or a plan from Jesus that he sent me Janet Sosa to be my friend at work this Summer, or I may have died.

We have a lot in common. We both love makeup, both have similar parental situations, we can both talk to each other about anything, and Janet really makes me feel like I'm funny. She laughs at all my jokes and thinks I'm funny. So here's to you, Janet! Thank you for making my Summer more than bearable, it was AWESOME because of you! And don't for one second ever think that you're not the coolest, beautifulet, kindest, most genuine person ever. And I don't want a guy to ever make you feel like you're not worth it.

I meant to take a picture with her tonight on our last day of work together to include specifically on this post so that I may look back in years to come, and I hope we are still in touch then. Only tonight at work didn't go quiteeee as planned. I feel kind of like I'm Janet's life coach as well as friend. But obviously the picture didn't happen because the big dysfunctional family at Sonic has turned ugly on me, and everyone hates me. Story of my life!

“This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.”

I don't know where that quote came from, but it's freaking awesome. Love ya Janet.

Someone I loove

Leonard and Virginia Woolf

When I was in 7th grade for some reason I decided to spontaneously rent a movie at Blockbuster titled The Hours.  If you haven't seen this movie, I must admit that it made me sad, and I usually enjoy dramas or otherwise sad movies.

I probably like the music/soundtrack more than I do the actual movie, but still.  Some of the greatest actors of our generation star in this movie, like Nicole Kidman (who won an oscar for her role!), Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, Claire Danes, and Ed Harris plays on old guy with aids (He's also in Stepmom, another sad movie that I like). Nicole Kidman wore a false nose to make her look more like Virginia Woolf, how awesome is that?!

Thanks to The Hours, I discovered Philip Glass (who composed the soundtrack to The Hours), he is absolutely fantastical amazing and I love all of his songs, old and new.  Also thanks to this movie I started researching and learning more about Virginia Woolf.  She kept diaries, like I used to.  She loved writing and used it as an escape from her life which she hated.  She also is a really fascinating person to me.  I own 2 of her biographies that are about 800 pages each, no lie, so I obviously haven't had time to read them, but plan on doing so once I get a Summer where I'm not constantly unpacking/repacking/cleaning/moving to a new apartment.

What I want to say is I owe all the happiness of my life to you. You have been entirely patient with me and incredibly good. I want to say that — everybody knows it. If anybody could have saved me it would have been you. Everything has gone from me but the certainty of your goodness. I can't go on spoiling your life any longer. I don't think two people could have been happier than we have been. V.

That is from her suicide note to her husband and probably seems really depressing, but I find it  romantic.  Whatever.  Maybe I'm weird.  That's okay.  Here are some other quotes from her that I like:

"A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction."
"I want the concentration and the romance, and the worlds all glued together, fused, glowing: have no time to waste any more on prose."
"It is in our idleness, in our dreams, that the submerged truth sometimes comes to the top."
Nicole Kidman as Virginia Woolf

This is a letter Woolf wrote I found online that was doing handwriting analysis.

A Little Bit Hypocritical...

An event at work today made me very sad.  Amidst all of the lunatics and generally confused people who choose to dine at Sonic Drive-In, there is normally at least one person who chooses to ruin my day.

A man/boy, probably around my brother's age (18) or a year older, wandered on to the Sonic patio with a Bible in hand.  Right off the bat I got a queasy feeling and knew something was a little off.  The last time I saw someone carrying a Bible at Sonic it was a homeless man who also rode a bike and carried a boombox playing 80s rap music.  This was a long time ago, but still.

So the guy asks my co-worker if someone will go outside and clean off the table he wants to sit at.  Of course this is the only dirty table on the patio that some kids had just sat at and spilled strawberry compote all over the freaking table.  So I go outside as ordered and clean the table and chairs all the while this joker wants to sit there kind of mumbling, but I thought he was talking to me, so I said, "what?"  Maybe he would have preferred if I'd said, "pardon me, kind sir?"  What can I say, poor choice of words perhaps.  He didn't even respond to me saying 'what', or look at me, so I just figured he was reading his Bible to himself.

I brought out his food (a #3, I have a very good memory), and he paid me in exact change, no tip, and didn't say anything to me (no thank you), except as I was nearly inside stepping a foot in the door he said "You take it easy now".  Whatever.  You need to take it easy on the Bible, obviously.

About 5 minutes after he vacated the premises, I hear my manager Johnny talking to someone on the phone, saying things like, "I'm very sorry, sir" and "yes, I understand" and, "If you want to talk to the owner Carolyn, just call back tomorrow morning and tell her I said to call her".  Curious, I asked him who was calling.  He smiled and told me it was the guy with the Bible saying I was very kind when I brought out his food but when I was cleaning his table off I was very rude to him, didn't respect him as a person, and said "WHAT" really rudely.  Umm... excuse me.  Maybe I should've said, "WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?! AND WHY ARE YOU MUMBLING TO YOURSELF?" He didn't respond to me and say something that would be a normal response to a question like, "Oh nothing, don't mind me".  That would be the normal human response, and people at Sonic don't understand nor have those.

W.W.J.D.?  Jesus would tell me to forgive this sad, poor soul.  But I really can't get over how this boy/man was carrying and READING a Bible, and chose to call and complain about me, saying I didn't respect him!  That couldn't be farther from the truth!  Jesus would have said 'thank you' to me.  This man/boy needs to be very thankful that he didn't come during the daytime or get one of the other employees delivering his food.  Let's just say Sonic isn't really famous for closing on Sundays.

I'm not really sure why I let these things that happen to me at work get to me and take them so personally.  When someone defames my character or accuses me of doing things, I get very angry.  I can't help it. I wear my heart on my sleeve sometimes.  I feel like constantly there is someone, whether it be a customer or a co-worker, that is trying to bring me down.

I wonder if this person knows that he is a little bit   hypocrite.

Very Disturbing Commercials

What is up with all the disturbing commercials on TV lately?  Can I just watch my television shows in peace? I would rather have 5 minutes of silence so I can take a short nap than watch hamsters dressed as gangsters dance around.  I think that advertising people are trying to be so clever now that it really doesn't work and just ends up falling flat.  Actually the hamster commercial is pretty hilarious, considering the car they're advertising is hideous - I dunno who would ever think of that.

I just saw a commercial for Quizno's where some hoarse, dying cats are screaming about 3, 4, and 5 dollar prices on some disgusting looking sandwiches.  Wow.  Quizno's must really be hurting.  Subway is where it's at; although, the last time I went to Subway the undocumented workers there were ignoring me and probably talking shit about me in Spanish to each other.  They were probably like, "Why is this stupid white girl ordering tuna when she could be eating tacos...... ayiyyiyiyiyi".  NO WONDER THE TUNA TASTES SO TERRIBLE.  Needless to say I haven't gone back.

Another thing that has been bugging me for awhile now that's related to TV is how on Nick at Nite they show The Nanny, George Lopez, and Malcolm in the Middle.  WHAT THE.........
I miss the good ol' days when Nick at Nite consisted of Laverne and Shirley, The Wonder Years, The Brady Bunch, and Happy Days.  The Fonz. 'nuff said.  I never thought I'd be saying "the good ol' days", well, I guess there's a first time for everything!
Instead they show uninteresting, not funny shows.  I bet they would gain thousands of viewers every night if they put just one of these shows back on the late night schedule, but NO, that would be the smart thing to do.

I'm going to admit that I feel very sorry for kids growing up in America today with regards to the television shows they have to watch.  In the summertime when my siblings and I were growing up the best, most awesome shows would come on.  Now the kinds of shows that come on Nick and Disney in the morning like 'Handy Manny' (a Hispanic carpenter, of course) and Dora the Explorer (a Hispanic adventure girl w/a purple monkey, obviously) along with ICarly (some stupid show meant to make child stars) and Big Time Rush (5 gay guys that sing in some sort of band), are just terrible.  There's no other words to describe them.

What ever happened to Clarissa Explains It All, Double Dare, Doug, Legends of The Hidden Temple, What Would You Do?, Eureeka's Castle, Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, and the Disney Channel Original Movies?  Nowadays, all cartoons must be politically correct and fill kids' brains with mush.  All afternoon/evening shows on Disney and Nick are made to fuel child stars that can't act and don't care about what they're doing. Example: Miley Cyrus.  More on her later.

Alls I'm saying is, I really miss the classic Nick and Disney shows.  If the stations would go back to basics they would see that those shows are just as good, if not better, for today.  Shows that my generation grew up loving, like Boy Meets World, Saved By The Bell, and Full House, teach valuable and beneficial lessons on growing up and life in general.  I really miss those days.

Belts

Yesterday, my friend Gwen and I were going to go to Goodwill.  Instead, Gwen wanted to go to the Katy Christian Ministries (KCM) Resale shop, where they have surprisingly great deals.  Yesterday the daily special was all clothing items for $1!!! However, the clothes weren't really organized and I didn't even know where to start.  The cool thing about KCM is that the proceeds from the items you buy go directly back to the Katy community to help people in need.  So this is a win-win situation.

I got a wicker chair for my new room, a purse, and 4 belts for $22.  It was a successful day.

These are the belts I got (one of them Calvin Klein!).  A new belt can make an old shirt or a piece you haven't worn in awhile feel fresh and brand new.
